Classification of Nonwoven Fabrics by Manufacturing Process

Nonwoven fabric is a type of fabric that does not require weaving. It is formed by arranging materials such as viscose fibers and polyester fibers in a directional or random manner to create a fibrous mesh structure. Then, mechanical, chemical, or thermal bonding methods are used to reinforce them. Simply put, fibers are bonded directly rather than woven together with threads. Therefore, when we handle nonwoven fabric, we find that there are no warp and weft threads, and thread ends cannot be pulled out. It is easier to cut, sew, and shape. Nonwoven fabrics possess characteristics such as short production processes, wide-ranging raw material sources, fast production speeds, low costs, high yields, diverse product varieties, and broad applications. They can also be made into fabrics of different thicknesses, textures, and hardness according to requirements. Not only do nonwoven fabrics break traditional textile principles but also provide great convenience for our lives.

Nonwoven fabrics can be categorized into wet-process nonwoven fabrics and dry-process nonwoven fabrics based on manufacturing techniques. Wet-process refers to the final shaping of nonwoven fabrics occurring in water. This technique is commonly used in papermaking. Dry-process refers to the final shaping of nonwoven fabrics in the air, including hot-sealing (blowing, meltblown, thermal bonding), needle-punching, water-punching, and chemical bonding.

What Is Spunlace Nonwoven Fabric?

Among these, spunlace nonwoven fabric refers to nonwoven fabrics produced using the spunlace process. A high-pressure water jet (using high-pressure multi-strand fine water jets) is generated by the spunlace machine to spray the fibers into a mesh. After passing through the mesh, the high-pressure water jet hits the metal mesh conveyor belt inside. As the mesh cover bounces, the water splashes again, continuously piercing and spreading, utilizing hydrodynamic force to displace, interweave, and entangle the fibers, thus enhancing the fiber mesh and forming a sturdy, uniform spunlace thin fiber mesh. The resulting fabric is spunlace nonwoven fabric.

Production Process of Spunlace Nonwoven Fabric:

Fiber Feeding → Opening → Combing → Mesh Laying → Spinning → Drying → Rewinding

Fiber Feeding: Place fibers of different proportions into the equipment.

Opening: Use high-power blowers to scatter the fibers, breaking up large fiber blocks and clusters to make them fluffy.

Combing: Prepare single-fiber thin nets for laying.

Mesh Laying: There are three ways to lay the mesh: straight, semi-crossed, and fully crossed.

Spinning: High-pressure water jets interweave ordered fibers together.

Drying: Remove moisture and volatile substances from the fabric, drying the damp surface.

Rewinding: Wind the finished nonwoven fabric into rolls.
